SPOTCAST: November 2011

Posted by Unknown at 17:41 on Saturday, 29 October 2011

Everything's been a bit quiet on the playlist front for a few months now, so I'm happy to post that we're bringing back a monthly Spotcast. Weekly editions may have been a bit eager. Especially when real life matters get in the way of Internet land. Having recently had to move back to my parents' attic due to financial constraints (I work 50+ hours a week in central London; thanks baby-boomers, or 1%, or is it 99%?), it's been difficult to bring regular instalments. It's also oddly more difficult to discover new music when you're busy but hoping to set that straight soon as I've got 17 days holiday to take before the end of the year.

So here's your monthly dose: November's 'Spotcast' as we like to call it; a helpful blend of 'Spotify' and 'Podcast' (like 'Edutainment'). Hope it aids you through the blustery dark evenings and hopefully you find something new or at least something you enjoy in there.

I'm on holiday from work now for 11 whole days. That's the most time I've had off since being a lazy smelly student. Rather fortuitously this has synchronised itself with some glorious weather and a road trip to the countryside. Looking down the playlist, it seems I've subconsciously taken a rather seasonal turn with songs like "Heaven's On Fire", "With Our Backs To The City" by bands such as "Suuns" and "The Byrds". With that in mind here's some sunny songs for your Good Friday.

01- The Appleseed Cast - As The Little Things Go
02- Girls - Laura
03- The Radio Dept. - Heaven's On Fire
04- Belong - Make Me Return

SPOTCAST #SPECIAL: End Of The Road 2011

Posted by Unknown at 09:52 on Friday, 25 March 2011

If you've been paying attention, you'll be aware that I'm going to End Of The Road festival this Summer and mightily looking forward to it. A week ago, the final headliner slot was announced and - despite my best efforts - I couldn't pluck that one from the stars in my soothsayer post just a few days earlier. The magnificent Joanna Newsom will be the one to join Beirut and Mogwai as the final headliner.

Last year, I compiled a Spotify playlist of all the albums from all the acts and it certainly helped me get familiar with some of the lesser known names. In a slight deviation from our regular Friday mixtape, I've done the same for this year's confirmed bands. I will continue to add artists' discographies as they are announced in the run up to September. All you have to do is subscribe, hit shuffle and acquaint yourself with your next favourite summer sound.

Normal Spotcast service will resume next week.

Every week, we'll be bringing you the best of what we've been listening to over the past seven days in a handy 'Spotcast'. 'A what?' I hear you cry. Well it's a mixture between a podcast and a playlist delivered via the medium of Spotify. Thus 'Spotcast'.

You can follow this playlist easily by subscribing to it in Spotify. This will then automatically update every Friday with a new dose of tunes for your weekend. We'll be archiving each playlist once it's out-dated so you can revisit them once they've been retired from the master playlist.
