About a week ago, I discovered Unknown Mortal Orchestra through the delights of Last.Fm recommendations and I've since played their 2011 debut record Ffunny Ffriends a total of 10 times. You don't have to be a maths genius to figure out that is a fairly high plays-to-days ratio. So what's the business?
Unknown Mortal Orchestra are a three piece hailing from Portland, Oregon and play Krautrock, Beatnik throwback. They've maintained a fairly distinctive sound throughout the album, using lo-fi guitar melodies, psychedelic vocals and hard-panned drums and bass. The result is something sublime and I hope you'll check it out.
They are touring the States at the moment with Toro Y Moi, before coming to Europe in November. They'll be at XOYO in London on the 28th November.
