Atlas Sound - Logos

Bradford Cox's solo career, under the guise of Atlas Sound, has given me food for thought over the past couple of days. Better known as a co-founding member of Deerhunter, Cox has been writing with Atlas Sound in mind since the tender age of ten. However it wasn't until the release of Logos in late 2009 that the attention deservedly came, bringing with it a number of songs which make this album still worthy of mention even now.

'An Orchid' is always the first to stand out, lulling you into a long lost Bowie moment before heading straight into the gleeful electro-pop number that is 'Walkabout (w. Noah Lennox)'. The song borrows from The Dovers - 'What Am I Going To Do?', and you'd be forgiven for hearing Deerhunter in there also, but only for the better since 'Walkabout' is certainly a highlight. It'd be unfair to single out any particular track on this record though, because the moment one ends and another begins our attention is instantly grabbed, such is the gentle folkiness of 'Attic Lights', or the euphoric lift of 'Quick Canal (w. Laetitia Sadier)', all of which capture the imagination again and again.

Atlas Sound will be attending this years ATP festival curated by Animal Collective from May 13th - 15th, and with any luck we'll be seeing some more appearances from Mr. Cox in the near future, but for now at least we have their recordings to keep us company.
